Glitter jars -

I was taught about glitter jars during my time as an inpatient. I learnt the magic of glitter during a self-soothe class as part of an emotional coping skills lesson.

There’s no science, no counting, no acceptance and no forceful methods involved in the alteration of your emotions during use of the glitter jar - just distraction.

Making a glitter jar is simple. You will need:

• 1 jar (with a lid of course!)
• 1/10 vegetable oil
• 9/10 water
• glitter - lots of!
• food colouring
• anything else shiny

Add the water and vegetable oil together. Add a few drops of food colouring, all of the glitter and anything else shiny. Put the lid on (tight!) and shake it.

When you want to cut / binge / scream / cry, shake the glitter jar and watch until the glitter is settled. It’ll calm you and hopefully the emotion will pass.

Her self confidence is low. She’s so young to be this empty. She wants someone to believe in her, but who? She gazes up at the stars each night and wonders, “How did the stars become so beautiful? Maybe I can use that magic tool? So I may become beautiful and be cared about?” She doesn’t want to be beautiful to compete for the next new thing. She wants to be beautiful to prove something. Prove that shes good enough. Each day she looks to her best friend and wonders ” Why can’t I have the life she has?” Only does she know what her friend maybe hiding. A past with a cover over it. Issues unheard of by any soul. This girl looks all around and sees so much that she wonders ” Why can’t I just be cared about by being myself? Why do I have to be what everyone else would like? Why can’t I love myself and prove everyone wrong. I’m myself, not some skinny modle in a magazine, not a girl with the perfect family, not the girl with the nicest clothes. I’m the girl who is willing to be who I am and not change that for anyone but myself.” & Then the girl realized, shes done worring. She done livng up to the standards. For a girl who was once cold and empty, she’s as happy as she can be with who she really is rather  that what she should be.
